DAY RETREATS FOR WOMEN FRIENDS, MITRAS & ORDER MEMBERS EDINBURGH 2025: ‘THE FOUR GIFTS’ (4)

To celebrate what would have been Sangharakshita’s 100th year and the growing community of Friends, Mitras & Order Members on the East Coast, we are pleased to be able to offer a series of 4 days exploring themes from Bhante’s poem ‘The Four Gifts.’

All women mitras are welcome to attend. The theme of the day will be ‘My fourth gift is a garden planted in a wilderness.’ from the poem, the four gifts (found at the end of this text).

Practical information

Location: DHAMMAPADIPA TEMPLE, 199 SLATEFORD ROAD, EH14 1LA
Doors open from 10.30am for a 10.45am start (slightly later to allow for Sunday travel)
The temple shrine room is provided to us by the resident monks on a Dana basis. Please bring cash to give what you can for the day. All contributions are welcome.
Bring food to contribute to a shared lunch. There is a supermarket 10 minutes walk away if you need to buy anything. We also suggest you bring meditation cushions and/or stools if you wish – although there are some square, flat cushions available to use.
The nearest bus stop is Alan Park Road (4, 20, 34, 44 bus services) and the nearest train station is Slateford station. Both are a short walk from the temple. There is no parking at the temple itself but there is usually parking on the streets up behind.
We look forward to seeing many of you there.

FOUR GIFTS by Sangharakshita

I come to you with four gifts.
The first gift is a lotus-flower.
Do you understand?
My second gift is a golden net.
Can you recognize it?
My third gift is a shepherds’ round-dance.
Do your feet know how to dance?
My fourth gift is a garden planted in a wilderness.
Could you work there?
I come to you with four gifts.
Dare you accept them?
